They are all basically bunched together, My fav is the Marriott, although the RI may win on price and best view from the rooftop bar. There are three main hotels downtown, although not as "hip" as Durham's - Marriott, Sheraton and Residence Inn. Raleigh has good places to eat too, but is the capital so has great museums you can walk to (science and history) a little more shopping than Durham. For hotels, Durham Hotel, 21C and Unscripted are hip, happening and in the middle of everything. Durham is a little edgier, but amazing food and art. Staying at the Carolina Inn would give you the true Carolina Experience.ĭurham and Raleigh both have great downtowns with restaurant and things to do. It is sad to say but while I was here I seen several drugs deals going on. There is a parking lot but I would suggest parking as close to the entrance as possible. Though I would HIGHLY suggest visiting only during daylight hours. The gardens are open 24 hours a day and located only a few minutes from downtown Raleigh. In additional to the statue there is a sculpture that lists more than 2500 donors to the gardens. And when I wrote about this place several years ago on another website, it said plans were underway to expand the gardens to 7 1/2 acres but I don't see where anything has been done. According to the website the state is surrounded by more than 5000 bushes and plants though I would think 500 would be pushing it. The bronzed statue is the only garden devoted to Dr. King gardens are more like a statue to honor the civil rights leader than a garden.
